The Minimum

The only equipment you need at your location is a computer with a suitable web browser. While there are other more advanced ways to use our Collaboration racks with more functionality, in a worst case scenario, a mere web browser is in fact enough to connect to your racks and control all of our devices, including but not limited to all servers, routers, switches, remote desktops, jabber clients and rack-connected phones. This is only recommended if you are unable to use SSL VPN or Telnet from your network environment due to security restrictions.

The preferred method is to download and install the Cisco AnyConnect client and connect to the rack using SSL VPN.

For Windows operating systems, the following software can also be useful:

Telnet and SSH:

  • SecureCRT — Paid, from VanDyke Software
  • Putty - Free, this is what the actual CCIE exam uses Putty
  • Windows Telnet — Start > Run > cmd.exe > telnet.exe

Remote Desktop Access:

  • Micorosoft Remote Desktop client

Web browsers:

  • Firefox
  • Chrome
  • Internet Explorer

For Mac operating systems, the following software can also be useful:

Telnet and SSH:

Remote Desktop Access:

  • Micorosoft Remote Desktop client - version 8 or 10

Web browsers:

  • Firefox
  • Chrome
  • Internet Explorer running on a Windows VM using VMware Fusion
